Terms of Service

Effective date: May 30, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and the company that operates Dayo ("Dayo," "we," "us"). They cover the Dayo iOS app and the website at dayo.co. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use Dayo.

We tried to keep this readable. If anything is unclear, email hello@dayo.co.

What Dayo is

Dayo is an iOS app that helps you spend less time on your phone by letting you pick a real-world object (a "Totem") as the key to your locked apps. It uses Apple's Family Controls and DeviceActivity frameworks to block your selected apps until you snap a photo of your Totem to unlock them.

Who can use Dayo

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use Dayo.
  • You agree to provide accurate information at sign-up and to keep it current.
  • You're responsible for the security of the phone number you signed up with. Anyone who can receive your SMS verification code can sign in to your account.

Your account

You sign in with your phone number. We send a 6-digit one-time code via SMS that you enter to verify ownership. You don't set a password — your phone number is your account identity.

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent.

Totem Pro subscription

Dayo offers an optional auto-renewable subscription called Totem Pro. It unlocks features including scheduled auto-locks, the Buddies system, unlimited manual locks, and unlimited focus sessions.

Billing

  • Totem Pro is billed annually at the price shown on the paywall screen and in the App Store. The current price for new subscribers is displayed there before you purchase.
  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID at the moment you confirm the purchase (or at the end of the free trial, if your offer included one).
  • Your subscription automatically renews for a 1-year period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Apple processes all payment. We never receive your credit card number, billing address, or any payment details.

Managing or canceling your subscription

Open Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptionson your iPhone to view, manage, or cancel your Totem Pro subscription. You can also tap "Manage subscription" inside Dayo to jump there.

Refunds

All subscription refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's standard policy. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue refunds directly.

SMS / electronic communications

By signing up with your phone number, you consent to receive SMS from Dayo for the following purposes:

  • Account verification (transactional). A 6-digit one-time code each time you sign in. Format: “Your Dayo code is 123456.”
  • Weekly recap (opt-in summary). One message per week, Sunday evening in your local time, summarizing the minutes you reclaimed and your current streak. Format: “Dayo recap: 3h 22m off your phone this week across 9 sessions. 7-day streak going. Reply STOP to opt out.”

Message frequency. Verification: as needed (typically one per sign-in attempt). Weekly recap: at most one per 7 days, only if you had at least one closed session in the window.

Message and data rates. Standard message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier.

Opting out. Reply STOP to any Dayo SMS to stop further messages from that number. Reply HELP for support contact info. Carrier-mandated STOP/HELP keywords are honored automatically by our SMS provider.

Support. For help with SMS or anything else, email hello@dayo.co.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use Dayo to harass, deceive, or harm anyone.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the app.
  • Use automated tools to interact with Dayo's API or backend (rate-limiting and bot detection apply).
  • Try to circumvent the friction the app is designed to create (e.g. by hooking into private iOS APIs to bypass shields). That defeats the entire purpose anyway.
  • Impersonate another user, share your account credentials, or let someone else use your phone number to access Dayo.

License

We grant you a limited, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use Dayo on iOS devices you personally own or control, for your personal, non-commercial use. The app and its content are owned by us and protected by copyright and trademark law.

No warranty

Dayo is provided "as is." We do our best to keep the service running and accurate, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or that the app will meet your specific requirements. Apple's Screen Time framework occasionally has bugs that affect Dayo's behavior; we work around them as best we can but can't promise perfection.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dayo and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the app, including lost time, missed messages, or any reliance you placed on the app's ability to block specific apps at specific times. Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the prior 12 months (or $0 if you're on the free tier).

Termination

You can stop using Dayo at any time and delete your account from inside the app.

We can suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms or use the app in a way that damages other users or our infrastructure. We'll do our best to email you first.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page and (where required by law) notify you in-app or via SMS. Continued use of Dayo after the change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Dayo's operating entity is registered, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
